This week, we’re switching gears to talk about exporting from the UK—what’s the same, what’s different, and how we make the process just as smooth. Let’s take a look at how we’ve got your back when it comes to getting your goods across borders.

Our Approach

  • Prompt Document Handling: Once your transport is approved, we immediately take action on the customs documents.
  • Broker Coordination: We work closely with our trusted customs broker to prepare the necessary paperwork.
  • EX and LRN: Our broker will prepare the EX document, which includes the LRN (a unique consignment number).
  • Customs Office Visit: The driver will need to visit the Inland Border Facility in Ashford, UK, to complete customs formalities.

Exporting from the UK: The Customs Clearance Process

  1. LRN Presentation: The driver presents the LRN number to the customs officials.
  2. T1 Transit Issue: Based on the LRN, a T1 transit document is issued.
  3. GMR Creation: The carrier generates a GMR (Goods Movement Reference) from the T1 transit document.
  4. Ferry Boarding: Once the GMR is created, the vehicle can board the ferry or Eurotunnel.
  5. Smart Border Crossing: During the ferry crossing, the driver undergoes a Smart Border Crossing check.
  6. Post-Disembarkation Instructions: Upon disembarking, the driver will receive instructions on how to proceed.

Understanding Post-Disembarkation Options

  • Green Routed: Your shipment proceeds without further customs checks.
  • Orange – DOUANE or SIVEP: Requires reporting to customs for inspection.
  • Orange Routed: Indicates a need for document corrections before proceeding.

Required Documents

For export, only the electronic EX document and the printed T1 transit document are necessary.
